War in Ukraine: French soldiers leave for Romania to secure NATO bases

President Emmanuel Macron announced it: 1,500 French soldiers will be mobilized to reinforce NATO forces on the eastern flank, at the gates of Ukraine. Other soldiers must also leave like those of the 4th rowGap Chasseurs Regiment (High mountains).

Based in Gap (High mountains)a squadron of a hundred men is the first to leave for Eastern Europe. “I am delighted for you, because it is a great experience in a career”throws a colonel at them. They will be positioned in Romanianear the southern border of Ukraine. The squadron will be equipped with two vehicles in particular: a light reconnaissance vehicle and another armored vehicle.


Friday, February 25, as before each departure, a meeting was held with the family of the soldiers to explain the context of the intervention. “It is important to reassure the families, to explain to them what we are going to do and that the soldier leaves calmly”explains Captain Cyril, squadron leader. In total, 250 men will leave on Monday, February 28, for a NATO base in Romania. Eventually, 9,500 French soldiers must be mobilized or on alert.
