Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Poutine once again spoke by telephone on Saturday March 12. What do we know about this 75-minute exchange? Live from the Élysée, journalist Valérie Structure gives details.
On Saturday March 12, Emmanuel Macron once again spoke by telephone with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “The Élysée indicates that the interview was frank and difficult. Emmanuel Macron sought to confront Vladimir Putin with his contradictions“, reports the journalist Valérie Astruct, live from the Elysée. During the interview, the Russian president maintained that he did not attack civilians, to which Emmanuel Macron retorted: “These are lies“.
“The Elysée notes that the Russian president shows no desire to end the conflict“, continues the journalist. In total, it is therefore the 6th phone call between the two heads of state, with little results. Emmanuel Macron seems to have taken on the role of mediator between Russia and Ukraine.
“But this evening, President Zelensky notes that Vladimir Putin no longer issues an ultimatum, and seems to be delighted“, notes the journalist. The Russian president also no longer uses the word “denazification“. “Minimal inflections that give hope, hoping that this will be translated on the ground“, concludes Valerie Structure.
