(Kyiv) A double attack by missiles and then Russian drones left six dead and more than a dozen injured during the night from Friday to Saturday in Kharkiv (North-East), Ukraine’s second city, according to a new report local authorities.


“Six people were killed and 11 injured as a result of the night attack by enemy missiles,” the Kharkiv prosecutor’s office said on social media on Saturday morning.

“At approximately 12:20 a.m. (6:20 p.m. Eastern Time), Russian armed forces launched their missiles at the residential district of Shevchenkivskyi,” located in the north of the city, he said, adding that the attack had damaged “buildings, administrative buildings, dormitories, a nursery, shops and cafes”.

“Russian terror against Kharkiv does not stop,” condemned Volodymyr Zelensky in a message published on Telegram, once again calling on Kyiv’s allies to provide him with more air defense systems.

The Kharkiv police reported two S-300 missiles fired at the sleeping city, then a second attack on the emergency response sites, this time carried out by drones which were shot down by the defense. anti-aircraft, according to her.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov initially indicated that the six dead were killed by Iranian-made drones.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense indicated in a press release that it had targeted and “hit” “companies of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex”.

Another attack during the night from Friday to Saturday also targeted the village of Mala Danylivka, located northwest of Kharkiv, but no casualties were reported according to the police.

The Kharkiv attack came shortly after two other attacks in comparable circumstances in less than 48 hours.

On Friday, four people were killed and around twenty others injured in a Russian missile strike in Zaporizhia, a large city in southern Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia also carried out a “double strike”, a type of attack which consists of bombing a place first time, then a second time when emergency services and the press arrived on site.

The day before, three Ukrainian rescue workers died in an attack of this type on Kharkiv.
