(Ottawa) Canada pledges an additional $39 million in weapons and non-lethal military aid to Ukraine.
National Defense Minister Anita Anand announced the new contribution during a meeting with her counterparts from the United States and other allies in Germany.
This donation includes nearly 35 million in cash to help Ukraine purchase fuel, first aid kits and other non-lethal supplies through a special NATO fund.
The rest of the money will be used to purchase 40 sniper rifles and ammunition from a Winnipeg company, as well as new radios for the eight Leopard 2 tanks that Canada donated to Ukraine.
Canada has pledged more than $8 billion in financial, military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine since Russian forces invaded the country in February 2022.
As the conflict has turned into a war of attrition over the past few months, Ukraine is expected to launch a counter-offensive with the help of Western weapons in the coming weeks.
