(Kyiv) At least three people were killed and 28 injured in a new Russian attack on a residential area of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city located in the northeast of the country and regularly hit by strikes, according to a new report from the regional governor.
“The enemy carried out at least five strikes with air bombs” on the Kyivsky district, Governor Oleg Synegoubov said on Telegram, reporting a few minutes later three dead and 28 wounded.
An eight-story residential building was hit, the governor said, releasing images of a partially destroyed building.
“A new Russian attack on Kharkiv,” President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is currently visiting New York and is due to address the UN General Assembly later today, lamented on Telegram.
“Russian bombs targeted a residential building, a bakery, a stadium. That is, the ordinary life of ordinary people,” he said, calling on the international community to “put an end to Russian terror” and its “aggression” against Ukraine.
Located near the Russian border, the city of Kharkiv had a population of more than 1.4 million before the Russian invasion launched in February 2022, which left tens of thousands of civilian and military dead in Ukraine.
Kyiv has been constantly demanding more air defense systems and long-range missiles from its Western allies to better defend its cities against daily Russian attacks.
