Friday April 1, tens of thousands of inhabitants remain stranded in Mariupol, a city martyred by the war in Ukraine. The 20 Hours went to meet those who were able to escape of hell to Zaporizhia.
AT Zaporizhia (Ukraine)a bus arrives from Mariupol (Ukraine) with the symbol of the Red Cross, Friday April 1st. However, it is not yet the long-awaited official and secure convoy. DChildren, women and old people get out of the bus. These refugees were lucky to find a bus chartered by volunteers. They took all the risks to get out of the city, outside the humanitarian corridor.
“It was very difficult”testifies a Ukrainian, in tears, before recounting the many checks of the Russians on the road while they were still on the bus: “I was afraid that they would kidnap my son. They made him throw his phone down and stomp on it because he had American music playing.“ Many residents arrive with their personal cars, decorated with a white ribbon to signify that they are civilians. To receive the refugees, a supermarket has been transformed into a reception centre.
