On Monday May 30, French journalist Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff died, aged 32, while covering the war in Ukraine for BFMTV. He was following a civilian evacuation operation near Lysychanskin the Donbasswhen he was killed by shrapnel. He is the eighth journalist who has been killed since the start of the conflict.
Frederic Leclerc Imhoff had worked for BFMTV for six years. It was his second mission to Ukraine. Monday, May 30, he was fatally hit by shrapnel, which went through a yet armored evacuation truck. On the morning of May 30, the team of journalists made up of Frédéric Leclerc Imhoffan editor and a fixer, had traveled near a combat zone with Ukrainian soldiers. They were then mounted in an armored convoy to film an evacuation operation of civilians.
The route taken by this convoy was dangerous, between Severodonetsk (Ukraine)besieged by the Russians, and Lysychansk (Ukraine). The editor was injured in the leg and the fixer was not hit. The 32-year-old journalist graduated from the Journalism Institute of Bordeaux-Aquitaine. His colleagues describe a formidable journalist, enthusiastic and benevolent. It was the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, who announced the death of the journalist on Twitter. France has requested an investigation. Since the start of the conflict on February 24, eight journalists have been killed.
