The shells intended for the Caesar guns are manufactured in the Forges de Tarbes, in the Hautes-Pyrénées. 15 million euros will be invested in the factory, in particular to replenish stocks, many shells having been sent to Ukraine to support the country against the Russian invasion.

The Caesar cannon is a centerpiece of French artillery. 18 of them were delivered to Ukraine. This fearsome weapon hurls shells 42 kilometers away. Its ultra-specific ammunition is manufactured in the Forges de Tarbes (Hautes-Pyrénées). To develop these weapons of 155 millimeters in diameter, the steel is packed, hollowed out and then heated to more than 1,000°C.

Shell production expected to triple by 2025

15 million euros will be invested in the Forges de Tarbes, 50% of which by theState. Would the war at the gates of Europe have pushed France to rearm? “It is, on the one hand, to replenish our stocks, because we sent a lot of these shells to Ukraine (…) On the other hand, it is to maintain the war effort that the we do in the name of NATO”says Jérôme Garnache-Creillot, CEO of Europlasma, of which the Forges de Tarbes company is a subsidiary. By 2025, the production of this enterprise should triple, reaching 160,000 shells per year.
