Having left for Israel to flee the war, more than 4,000 Ukrainians turned back after the attack on October 7. Many people no longer felt safe there.

A return to kyiv (Ukraine) was still unimaginable a month ago for Anna and her 8-year-old daughter Diana. Diana takes advantage of a beautiful day in a park in the capital to find a little bit of happiness and carefreeness. Because they are alive, after having experienced the war in Ukraine, then another in the country where they had taken refuge. Ukraine has always had a strong connection with Israel. “I felt the same thing in Israel as I did on February 24, 2022 in Ukraine, when Russia attacked us”explains Anna.

“This war can drag on”

Back then, when the war broke out, Anna was living in a small village with her daughter. It was occupied for several weeks by the Russian army. Once freed, they went into exile in Israel to join a cousin, but they did not know peace for very long. “I decided to leave in mid-October. This war could drag on, that’s why I returned to kyiv”, emphasizes Anna. Like her, more than 4,000 Ukrainians have left Israel to return to live at home since October 7.
