“Wandering certainties”: Valérie Chevalier

“I searched for ‘the one’ all my life, until I realized there wasn’t just one. None would be able to satisfy me completely. The more I saw them, the more I made this observation to myself: I needed everything. » At the dawn of her 35th birthday, a woman is at a crossroads. In a relationship for two years, she looks back, towards her exes who gave her so much, while projecting herself into a life as a couple nourished by children. In this seventh title, Valérie Chevalier delivers a touching story, full of relevant reflections on the woman, the man, on the couple, this “institution so frequented, valued”, but which is perhaps not necessarily the ultimate success. If the questions are sometimes sprinkled with clichés surrounding love and its effects – “butterflies in the stomach”, “stars in the eyes” – which tend to trivialize the whole, the writing remains sensitive and enriched with numerous quotes from authors from different backgrounds, from Ernaux to Jardin via Mouawad, who add to the effect of meaning.
