Wall Street starts lower in last session of poor stock market year

(New York) The New York Stock Exchange started down Friday the last session of a very bad year for stocks, the worst since 2008.


The Dow Jones index lost 0.57%, the technology-dominated NASDAQ fell 1.11%, and the S&P 500 0.78% a few minutes after opening.

The day before, the indices had attempted a rebound. In light trading, which amplifies the variations, the Dow Jones gained 1.05% to 33,220.80 points, the NASDAQ jumped 2.59% to 10,478.09 points and the S&P 500 gained 1.75%, to 3849.28 points.
