Walk the talk

The text by Mr. Jean-François Lisée “The disproportionate CAQ” (The dutyApril 27) is a good illustration of the revolting nature of François Legault’s retreat on the question of reforming the voting system.

I understand Mr. Jean-Pierre Charbonneau — and surely so many others — for not losing his temper. However, in my humble opinion, anger is no longer enough. Since the word leads nowhere, it is now time to associate the gesture. All civil society organizations who are fed up with this situation should encourage the population to use the only means at their disposal to exert such pressure on the government that it will be forced to act. And this means is massive abstention in the elections of October 3rd.

I suspect that my point of view will be widely rejected. The absent are always wrong, you will say. But the current voting system considers that it is rather a large part of those present who are wrong. I have exercised my right to vote without fail since the elections of November 15, 1976. Each time, it has been useless, because, in the constituency where I live, not only does the candidate of my choice have no chance of to be elected, but, moreover, the method of voting denies any value to my vote. Under these conditions, I no longer see the point of being present.
