The leader of the Wagner paramilitary group, Yevgeny Prigojine, is still under criminal investigation for his 36-hour rebellion, several Russian media reported on Monday (June 26th). “The case has not been closed, the investigation continues”said a source in the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office, quoted by the three main Russian news agencies and the daily Kommersant. Saturday evening, the Kremlin announced the abandonment of the prosecution, after an agreement negotiated between the mercenary and the Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko.
Evguéni Prigojine is under investigation for “calling for armed mutiny”, after leading a short rebellion and sending his fighters to Moscow. He had finally announced the withdrawal of his mercenaries, Saturday evening, to avoid “a bloodbath”.
THE “anti-terrorist operation regime”, introduced in Moscow and its region in response to this rebellion, was lifted on Monday morning. This decision was made due to “the absence of threats to life, health and property” people, said the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK), quoted by Russian news agencies. “The situation in the Moscow region is currently stable”he assured.
