‘Wagathe Christie’: Wayne Rooney’s wife in court against… a footballer’s wife!

If you thought that the couple formed by Wayne and Coleen Rooney was going to stop talking about him, you were completely wrong! Married since 2008, the two lovers have had escapades for years and it must be said that the infidelities of Cristiano Ronaldo’s former teammate at Manchester United have a lot to do with it. It is not this subject that agitates the British press, but rather the dispute between Coleen and another footballer’s wife, Rebekah Vardy. The latter is none other than the wife of Jamie Vardy, striker for the England team and a real star on the other side of the Channel.

The two women meet in London from this Wednesday, May 11 and for a week for a trial that promises to be rich in twists and above all very publicized, to the point that the case already has its own name: “Wagatha Christie” (a pun on the term WAG, which designates the companions of famous sportsmen). In the facts, Rebekah Vardy sues Coleen Rooney for defamation after the latter accused her of having leaked information to the English tabloids.

Rebekah Vardy accused of leaking information to the press

Between the two footballers’ wives, it all started in October 2019, when Coleen Rooney accused Rebekah Vardy of having transmitted to the tabloid The Sun “false stories” about her. After that, Wayne Rooney’s wife said more on her social networks, indicating that she realized that what she published on her private account regularly appeared in the newspaper. She then set up a Machiavellian plan to see if the mole was indeed Jamie Vardy’s wife, by blocking everyone from her stories, except her own account. Subsequently publishing false stories about a trip to Mexico, she realized that the information had been taken up by the press.

Faced with these charges, Rebekah Vardy decided to counterattack by denying the facts and suing Coleen Rooney for defamation. According to British law, it is now up to Mrs Rooney to prove the veracity of the accusations made.

A particularly high-profile trial that has just started and we are certainly not at the end of our surprises!
