The left, still divided, still has no name to propose for the occupant of Matignon. Insoumis and Socialists have each made a proposal and rejected that of the other. The New Popular Front has nevertheless managed to vote for the presidency of the National Assembly. The voters are exasperated.
On June 13, four days after the dissolution of the National Assembly, the New Popular Front gave the image of a reconstituted political family. A month later, nothing is going well: disagreements follow one another with no compromise on the horizon. “It’s ridiculous. We agree to get a position, to be a member of parliament. After that, we no longer agree. What’s the point?”asks a Toulouse voter. Another raises that “All the countries next to us are governed by a coalition.”
Is France capable of changing its political culture? For political scientist and expert associated with the Jean-Jaurès Foundation Dorian Dreuil, “Everyone has to adapt. (…) Both the electorate has to understand that this coalition format requires time (…), and on the side of elected officials and political staff, it also requires learning another way of creating compromises.” Will the left manage to reach an agreement in order to hope to govern? The answer, perhaps, will be given in the coming days, on the benches of the Assembly.
