The Volvic company is directly denounced by inhabitants of Puy-de-Dôme. According to them, it would be the cause of excessive withdrawals of water from groundwater.

In the Puy-de-Dôme, is the Volvic company pumping too much water into the soil by drying up the water tables? This is denounced by some local residents who are struggling to irrigate their crops as well as a famous fish farm, classified as a historical monument and which is now dry. Indeed, this heritage is endangered by the Volvic company, as explained by Édouard de Feligonde, owner of the fish farm of Saint-Genès l’Enfant. Classified as a historical monument, it is the oldest in Europe.

“There is no longer a single fish on the fish farm. The activity before was 60 tonnes of fish”laments the owner. “It made six fish farmers live”, he adds. The water came from the bottom of a cave, it has now dried up. The prefecture of Puy-de-Dôme is implicated. A court decision is expected Thursday, May 19. In this context, the Volvic water company has undertaken to take 20% less water from 2025.
