Every day, trucks of humanitarian aid from all over Europe make their way to Ukraine. A team from France Télévisions followed one of these convoys that left yesterday, Friday March 4, from Paris for Poland, just 2 km from the Ukrainian border.
It’s a trip to the heart of the Polish night towards Ukraine. Matthieu, 31 years old, volunteers to transport more than a ton and a half of material in his van. He will travel 1800 km from Paris. “The effort is ridiculous compared to the stakes of the situation“, he says. 30 km from the border, a service station has become the crossroads of all forms of solidarity in Europe. Many other volunteers, ordinary citizens, are present.
An Italian volunteer travels in a motorhome with food and clothes on board. For Matthieu, the loading of the van took place in Paris. A construction professional, he didn’t hesitate for a second to offer his help for the convoy. “It’s my van, we came to lend a hand in the chain of solidarity“, he explains. Hundreds of anonymous people responded to the call for donations. The donations are then sorted by the volunteers. Saturday, March 5, in the morning, it’s the end of the trip for Matthieu after 26 hours of travel. Other volunteers take over when they arrive in Poland.
