The French are numerous on the beaches this summer, and so is the waste. Without the intervention of volunteers, they would undoubtedly become veritable garbage cans. Report in Marseilles.

The beach of Prado, in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), is strewn with many cigarette butts, while it is forbidden to smoke there. If some are resigned, others invest. Sami Bouod, 10, never goes to the beach without picking up litter. “The Corsican sea is completely clear, and the Marseille sea, it is not clear. So I would like it to be”comments the young boy. To keep the beach clean, all you have to do is adopt simple gestures: pick up and bring back your waste.

Every year, 600,000 tonnes of plastic waste ends up in the Mediterranean. The “Clean my creeks” association regularly carries out waste actions, because the situation is deteriorating in the city. “Before, we arrived in July, we collected, and we had to wait a few months for it to become dirty again. Now it’s over, after two weeks, you come back, it’s carnage”, says Eric Akopian, founder of “Clean my creeks”. The association has already collected 8 tons of garbage since January.
