Volunteering | The new face of the “reliable guy”

At the end of 2021, we introduced you to Pietro Mancini, alias “The reliable guy”, who had embarked on an altruistic adventure by volunteering to help strangers in need for small jobs. Almost two years after throwing himself headlong into his project, he is continuing his mission, increasing support and has just unveiled his new profile, with superhero sauce, to make an impression.

This Chambly resident, who has offered free services to more than 300 people needing a hand with everyday tasks (assembling furniture, mowing a lawn, repairing a fence, etc.), continues to build what he calls “the beautiful chain of beauty”, inviting Quebecers to give in to the sirens of altruism. Supported by sponsors and donations from the public to make his project viable, he hopes to collect more support to carry out his missions, not hesitating to endorse the image of a superhero to attract attention. He recently unveiled the outline of his new face and his projects.

“Being a good guy is not enough for what I want to do, I want to take on my superhero heart, to be a symbol to highlight altruism and make that cool, give others the taste of showing off, he explains. I help people who have run out of resources find some peace of mind, which a superhero can do. »

He has thus developed a costume, not in lycra like the Supermans of this world, but based on functional elements allowing him to accomplish his tasks: his cape happens to be a cover to protect the ground or put down his tools. , his harness gives him quick access to his drills and screwdrivers, all complemented by safety boots and a sweater stamped with his logo.

Its modus operandi remains unchanged: any household in Montreal or its southern suburbs can call on its services (only once) to obtain free help or light work.

Ammunition for his missions

But even the loneliest of superheroes can’t work alone, and it’s by turning to the support of the public and sponsors that he can carry out his projects. He thus received that of the Quebec Pure, which provides him with cleaning products for his household missions, of the agency 2e head, which offers him administrative support, from a Familiprix in Repentigny, prescribing an annual sum, or from a private contributor who pays for his gas costs. The latest acolytes to date, the Princess Auto hardware stores will now lend him the necessary tools for his missions in the field, while the community-oriented optician Le bonhomme à spectacles offers him support.

At the same time, “The Reliable Guy” continues to multiply initiatives to promote altruism with fortnightly radio chronicles on this subject on the airwaves of CKVL, or the creation of a Facebook group to promote mutual aid and services rendered everywhere. in Quebec. He also aspires to give talks on his journey in volunteering. “The idea is also to inspire people to act more altruistically, when they can, on a daily basis,” says Mancini.
