Volpaia Chianti Classico 2019 | Treats: pleasing safe bet

I don’t remember ever being disappointed by this wine. Admittedly, each vintage is different, but it always demonstrates balance and harmony, finesse and complexity.

The 2019 Volpaia Chianti Classico, an excellent vintage in Tuscany, made me particularly happy. Pale in color, it immediately offers a complex, distinctive nose: aromas of Morello cherry and dried cherry intertwine with notes of cedar, undergrowth, tobacco leaf and garrigue.

The mouth offers a ripe material, coupled with a tonic acidity and moderate, super fine tannins. Archisec, tasty, the wine stretches on a long finish and invites the table.

Try it with osso buco, braised beef with carrots, veal chop with mushrooms, eggplant with parmesan. Even better after a few hours of opening: a passage in carafe will therefore be beneficial.
