A thank you in the language of Molière. The Ukrainian president thanked France, in a message published in French on Sunday, July 14, for “unwavering military, political and other assistance” which she has brought to her country since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, on the occasion of July 14. “Congratulations to France, to President Emmanuel Macron and to all French people on the occasion of the national holiday”wrote Volodymyr Zelensky on X.

“We will always be grateful for [l’]France’s unwavering military, political and other assistance, which has helped save thousands and thousands of lives in Ukraine. And above all, we are grateful to France for its resolve.”he added.

Like the United States and almost all European countries, France is an active supporter of kyiv in its war against Russian aggression. While France tried to maintain a form of dialogue with Russia at the beginning of the conflict, it hardened its positions towards Moscow in early 2024. Emmanuel Macron thus took the initiative to put on the table the hypothesis of sending European ground troops to Ukraine, or even deciding to give it Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets.
