The Ukrainian president is sounding the alarm. Volodymyr Zelensky accused Thursday, June 22, Russia of preparing a “terrorist attack” involving a leak “radiation” at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant occupied by Russian troops in southern Ukraine.

“They have prepared everything for this”said on Telegram Volodymyr Zelensky whose country had been the scene of the worst nuclear accident in history after the explosion of a reactor at the Chernobyl power plant. “We pass this information on to all our partners worldwide, all evidence”he continued. “The world is warned, the world can and must act”he urged.

The plant targeted by shots several times

“It’s a new lie. We just had contact with the International Atomic Energy Agency”, reacted to the press the spokesman of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov. Rafael Grossi, director of the UN body, is expected in Russia on Friday. He went last week to the Ukrainian power plant, the largest in Europe.

This installation is at the heart of the war launched by Russia against Ukraine in February 2022. Falling into the hands of the Russian army on March 4, 2022, the plant was targeted by fire and was cut off from the electricity grid in many times. According to kyiv, Russia has placed troops and weapons in its compound.

The destruction in May of the Kakhovka dam located in the southern zone occupied by Russia raised concerns about the sustainability of the basin used to cool the six reactors of the plant.
