“It was a very important match today, not only for third place in our group, but also for the world ranking. Each victory will be important until the Olympic Games! explained Vicky Savard.
Nothing was going well for Canada in the first set as their opponents outscored them 25-12. Things improved in the second set, but the Germans nevertheless managed to get their hands on the set at the finish line at the count of 26-24.
“We didn’t start the match as we would have liked. We adjusted our game plan after the second set. We had to go back to the basics and we applied that for the rest of the game, ”said Vicky Savard, author of two points in the game.
Against the back of the wall, the Canadians began their comeback in the third set. Led by Alexa Gray and Kiera Van Ryk, the Canadian team won the next two sets 25-23 and 25-18.
After a few exchanges of points in the tiebreaker, the Canadians took flight without looking back and defeated the Germans 15-9 to seal their victory.
“We never gave up and we demonstrated our strength of character. Winning 3-2 after trailing 2-0 shows all the work we’ve done! We know that to win games, we will always have to work harder than the other team and that’s what happened today. »
“We are really proud of ourselves! Everything that happens to us is not luck, we work so hard and we are starting to show it on the international scene, this is only the beginning of the adventure. We want to turn a lot of heads in the future,” added the 29-year-old athlete.
Kim Robitaille was also used in the game. She participated in a few exchanges in the first round in particular.
After suffering two losses at the very beginning of the tournament, the representatives of the Maple Leaf have rebounded well with three consecutive victories over the last three days. This sequence allowed them to reach the second round which will begin on October 4 with the wind in the veil.
“We are on the right track, we want to continue this momentum on the next lap. We’ll rest on Sunday and we’ll come back to training on Monday to be ready for the second round. We continue to always aim higher, ”concluded Savard.
