volkswagen | The ID.Aero will increase the electric offer in sedans

Volkswagen has officially presented a styling study that outlines the main features of its future electric sedan a few days after publishing sketches. The ID.Aero should logically take the place of the Passat in the organization chart of the German giant, ensuring its first offensive to Tesla in this arena.

Adopting a rather consensual formula obviously enhancing aerodynamics to reduce drag, this bodywork offers a coefficient of 0.23 cx to increase the kilometers traveled. It’s slightly better than a Tesla Model S (0.24 cx). Volkswagen claims that it will also be able to travel 620 km in the European measurement cycle (WLTP), a figure which will be reduced when the North American protocol is applied. If the price is competitive, this sedan could well accelerate the electrification of the vehicle fleet in the country. But there is obviously still the issue of supply.

Just like the ID.4, the ID.Aero adopts a grille illuminated by a horizontal line of diodes which crosses the logo of the manufacturer. Note also the absence of door handles, replaced by tactile surfaces to ensure better airflow.

As previously announced, the sedan will be built on the MEB electric chassis used among others by the ID.4. It could therefore inherit its 201 hp or 295 hp mechanicals whether or not we opt for the configuration with one or two engines. Volkswagen Canada says it will arrive here in 2024.
