When you went to vote last Sunday, did you know that in addition to choosing a candidate, you also donated money to a political party? For each ballot slipped into the ballot box, that corresponds to 1.60 euros. A sum paid each year for five years to the parties designated by your vote only in the first round. For a week, Kévin Pfeffer has been smiling. He is the treasurer of the National Rally.
He has done his sums: with more than 9 million votes obtained in the first round, his party will hit the jackpot. “We will probably get a little more than 20 million euros”he estimates. In detail, the RN must pocket 15 million euros annually, plus 37,000 euros per elected deputy, or a total envelope of up to 26 million euros if the party ever reaches an absolute majority. Enough to wipe out its debt of 17 million euros. However, the parties can also be sanctioned when receiving the amount of this financial aid. Indeed, the parties must respect a certain parity when presenting their candidacies in the different constituencies.
