What is it about ? “This will involve an increase in arms supplies by France, an increase in the number of Ukrainian soldiers trained by France and perhaps the launch of cooperation between Ukraine and France in arms production”explains Bernard Guetta, MEP from the Renew group, guest of “4 Vérités” on France 2, Friday February 16.
Should France deliver fighter planes to kyiv? “If you ask me my personal opinion, I would answer yes. I fear that unfortunately this is not the case. Let us stick to the collective supply of F-16s, American planes”, confides Bernard Guetta. Why not do it, is this a red line vis-à-vis Russia? “No, because we can’t do everything”he adds.
What would be the risk if Ukraine fell? “The Baltic countries, today, truly fear a push by the Russian army on their border. No doubt wrongly for the coming months, but no doubt rightly if Russia wins in Ukraine in the years to come”specifies the MEP from the Renew group.
“Trump wants to completely kill the Atlantic Alliance”
Should we fear a confrontation between Russia and NATO? Estonian secret services have warned of a protracted confrontation that could take place within the next ten years. “Vladimir Putin has never hidden, he has written it, he constantly says it, that his objective is the reconstitution of the borders of the Russian Empire, let us not delude ourselves about that”, affirms Bernard Guetta. Is he winning the war? “No, I don’t think so. He will probably score points in the coming days, but I also fear him in the coming weeks, because […] the Ukrainians are running out of ammunition”he specifies.
Donald Trump has indicated that he would encourage Russia to do whatever it wants to a NATO member country if it does not keep its financial commitments. “Trump wants to completely kill the Atlantic Alliance because in his eyes it is of no use; secondly, he hates us Europeans”assures Bernard Guetta.
Will the MEP from the Renew group be a candidate to lead the Renew list in the next European elections? “If it was offered to me, I would gladly accept”he confides.
