All the media thought that he had abused vodka during his interview with Vladimir Putin. This was not the case, however… Indeed, if, in 2007, Nicolas Sarkozy did not seem in control of his body and had lost his means when he spoke to the media, it is because the Head of State Russian had disturbed him during their discussion behind closed doors. Disturbed by the huge pressure he had put on her a few minutes before.
But this anecdote, everyone would have ignored it if a documentary had not been devoted to the underside of the G8 which took place in Germany in June 2007. The journalist Nicolas Hénin, in the documentary The Putin Mystery, directed by Christophe Widemann in 2016, indeed revealed the reasons which had made Nicolas Sarkozy totally lost when he spoke to the press. The journalist explained that Carla Bruni’s companion had the objective, through his interview with Vladimir Putin, of “to speak about the subjects which annoy”.
A failed push
The President of the French Republic at the time judged in effect “the hundreds of deaths in Chechnya are unacceptable”as well as “the death of journalist Anna Politkovskaya” who campaigned for human rights and had shouted loud and clear his opposition to Vladimir Putin. No doubt wishing to be zealous, Nicolas Sarkozy would have quickly been put back in the place that Vladimir Putin considered. “Either you continue on this tone and I crush you, or you stop talking like that and you will see. You have just become the president of France, but I can make you the king of Europe”he would have launched.
An anecdote that Nicolas Sarkozy has probably never forgotten. And which proves a little more the power and the charisma of the one who has been reigning terror for several weeks now and the war he is waging in Ukraine.
