Vladimir Putin appeared confident and sure of himself during a question-and-answer exercise lasting more than four hours with Russian citizens and journalists on Thursday, December 14. The Russian president particularly strongly criticized European leaders.
A huge annual show in the form of a live exchange between Vladimir Putin and citizens across Russia was broadcast on Russian television on Thursday, December 14. This annual program has not taken place since the start of the war against Ukraine two years ago. For more than four hours, the Russian president answered as many questions as possible, among the nearly two million sent by Russians from across the country.
The launch of his electoral campaign
Among the first subjects discussed: war. Asked about the subject, the Russian president replied: “There will be peace when we achieve the goals you mentioned: the denazification of Ukraine, its demilitarization and its neutral status.” He was also questioned on multiple regional issues such as daily life or the lack of heating.
Vladimir Putin also took the opportunity to strongly criticize European leaders: “Many believe that they behave like General De Gaulle, who fought for the interests of France with arms in hand. (…) But in fact, they behave like Marshal Pétain, who was a hero of the First World War, but who became a collaborator in the Second and submitted to the will of the occupiers.” This press conference also marked the launch of the electoral campaign of Vladimir Putin, who is running for office next March.
