With more than 87% of the votes according to official figures, Vladimir Putin was once again elected president of the Russian Federation on Sunday March 17.

Thousands of Russians gathered on Red Square in Moscow (Russia) on the evening of Monday March 18. The crowd celebrated ten years since the annexation of Crimea and Vladimir Putin’s fifth term as president of the country. The latter was welcomed like a rockstar, while the crowd chanted the name of the country. “For many, the return to the motherland was difficult and sometimes tragic. But we did it”declared Vladimir Putin.

Tensions between Paris and Moscow

The results of the presidential election on Sunday March 17 gave him more than 87% of the votes. Residents of Moscow say they are rather satisfied. “I hope he will restore Russia’s image, because we are looked down upon at the moment”, says a man. Venezuela, China and even India applauded Vladimir Putin’s victory, while the Ukrainian president spoke to him of a dictator. France has denounced a repression against civil society and the opposition.
