“Vladimir Ashkenazy”, Complete Chamber Music & Lieder Recordings

What makes it different — how and why? — a botched reissue and a job well done? The mystery is complete when you see that those responsible for this Ashkenazy box set are more or less the same as those responsible for the disconcerting Jessye Norman box. Here, the covers, although sometimes overexposed, are very correct and, for the moment, no disaster. In addition, the box set is useful, because it was high time to clean up the Ashkenazy reissues. This artist has recorded solo CDs, chamber music, concertos and as a conductor. In 2013, the cube Ashkenazy — 50 Years on Deccamixed disciplines. In 2017, a blue box set of the complete concertos was offset by a fuchsia box “Solos and chamber music”. It’s this one that’s messy, because it was now partial to the complete “Solo” box set from 2022 and this one, which notably adds the melodies of Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky with Söderström to the rich chamber musician legacy.
