There will be 155 new deputies following the early legislative elections of 2024 (LEA GIRARDOT / FRANCEINFO)

A quarter of the deputies elected in this election did not hold a seat before the dissolution of June 9. The number of new elected representatives is greater in the National Rally and within the New Popular Front.

Only a quarter of new faces in the Assembly. While the balances in the Chamber were upset during the 2024 legislative elections, and the New Popular Front became the leading political force without however achieving an absolute majority, only 155 of the 577 elected deputies are new entrants, on the evening of the second round. A figure much lower than in previous elections: there were 432 new deputies in 2017 and 294 in 2022.

However, the 155 newly elected MPs are far from all newbies. Several already have a rich political career behind them, like François Hollande, elected in Corrèze, in the constituency he held from 1997 to 2012. Several ministers will also enter the National Assembly as MPs, like Agnès Pannier-Runacher, elected in the 2nd constituency of Pas-de-Calais, after having held several ministerial positions since 2020.

This overall figure also masks major disparities. The share of new elected representatives is highest within the National Rally, since the far-right party has garnered the greatest increase in the number of deputies: 42% of its elected representatives did not hold a seat in the Assembly in recent months. This is the case, for example, of Nadine Lechon, narrowly elected in Dordogne, a farmer and former shopkeeper. Or Julien Gabarron, a former bar manager who joined the UMP, who beat the outgoing Emmanuelle Ménard in Béziers.

The proportion of new MPs is a little lower for the New Popular Front, at 37%, with 67 new MPs for 113 re-elected. Béranger Cernon is one of these new faces in the Assembly: this railway worker, RER D driver and trade unionist, dethroned Nicolas Dupont-Aignan in Essonne. Another example, Abdelkader Lahmar, a teacher in Vaulx-en-Velin, who won the 7th constituency of the Rhône.

Among the Republicans and their allies, the rate of new deputies falls to 24% (16 out of 50). We find there for example Vincent Jeanbrun, mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses, elected in Val-de-Marne. The presidential camp, itself, only has 8 new deputies, against 155 already in office (5%).
