In total, more than three quarters of France reached the maximum risk threshold for pollen allergy this Friday, February 16, according to data provided by the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA). Thus, in 83 departments, the health impact of pollen in the days to come is considered high. In 12 other departments, located in Brittany and the North, the risk is moderate. Finistère is the only spared department in France.

The spring temperatures of recent days have favored the flowering of several tree species, and therefore the dispersion of different pollens in the air. Pollens from hazel trees, alders and ash trees are among the most present in the air.

A lull expected this weekend

Cupressaceae, which include cedars, cypresses and even junipers, are also involved, especially in the south of the country. The pollen and mold monitoring organization also points out that mimosas, currently in full bloom, can cause local allergies.

The RNSA recommends that people with allergies wash their hair before going to bed, ventilate their homes well and avoid outdoor activities that lead to overexposure to pollen. A lull is expected for this weekend, during which rainy disturbances should leave pollen on the ground.
