We had a huge crush on the Kundah Hotel, when we were in Quebec, before the holidays. It was a spontaneous stop, between Charlevoix and Montreal, without reservation. Luckily, there was a table left for two at this favorite address in the Old Capital.

“Inspired by the flavors of India, prepared with local treasures”, announces the restaurant installed in the former Laurentian gourmet bar.
Chef and co-owner Raphaël G. Théberge combines ingredients such as cheese curds (rather than paneer), whelks and northern shrimp, among others, with flavors from different regions of India, whether it’s Kerala ( moilee curry) or West Bengal (momo dumpling).
The service, although friendly, was a little rushed, the room simply warm, the dishes unfussy, in their mismatched old crockery, but the flavors… wow! Fireworks !
And although each plate had its own very distinct taste, the whole paired perfectly, allowing for seamless back and forth between chicken achari tikka, palak Bergeron and eggplant bharta, among others. Drinks — cocktails, mocktails, beers, artisan wines, etc. — commanded by voice.
The Kundah Hotel is open Wednesday through Sunday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Do you prefer to eat at home or in your hotel room? It’s still possible, since the restaurant continues to offer take-out and even delivery options.
