While at City Hall, Mr. Trudeau hailed the election of a “progressive municipal leadership” in Montreal, but deplored the increase in fatal shootings.

“We are going to discuss our major shared priorities, be it housing, public transit and infrastructure. Obviously, public safety and handguns, we are going to talk about it because we have seen far too many tragedies recently, including in my riding of Papineau. We need to take as many actions as possible. ”

“We have always worked very, very well together during the first term,” said Mayor Plante, who is familiar with the Prime Minister of Canada. “We are going to discuss various issues affecting the metropolis. […] We are going to talk about how we continue to work together. ”

Mayor Plante exchanged a few words in Spanish with Pablo Rodriguez, Mr. Trudeau’s lieutenant for Quebec.
