“Visibility was extremely reduced, we couldn’t see anything!”

No need to introduce the famous group “Daft Punk”… And if they separated in 2021, the duo’s hits fortunately continue to resonate all over the world… And good news, Thomas Bangalter, one of the two members of “Daft Punk” Punk” decided to continue the music! On the occasion of the release of his first solo album entitled “Mythologies”, the latter was also invited on the airwaves of France Inter this Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

The opportunity for the 48-year-old to explain why he tried symphonic music with this new project: “ I had with Daft Punk the opportunity to work with orchestras, in particular for the music of the film “Tron L’Héritage”, and in our last album”, recalls Thomas Bangalter. “But we worked with arrangers. And for a long time, I wanted to rub shoulders with this exercise of orchestration”.

“We played at Bercy and I saw nothing”

If Thomas Bangaltier mentioned his solo projects, the man obviously agreed to come back to his career with Daft Punk. Indeed, the one who told Léa Salamé to have lived his thirty years of planetary success with “a lot of distance and detachment” explained that these robot characters had allowed him to detach himself from this phenomenal success.

“With these robot characters, we navigated between fiction and reality. But I kind of feel like it was like an illusionist or a puppeteer. We were very focused on the device, on the show, and finally we don’t really look at the public, like in the theater. Visibility was extremely reduced in the helmets, it was very hot and you can’t see anything… In the end, I have the impression that it also protected me. When we played at Bercy, I didn’t see anything, actually! », he confided.
