Storm Ciaran will hit France on Wednesday evening with wind gusts perhaps over 150 km/h off the coast.

The British have already named it: Ciaran should hit the large north-western quarter of the country on the night of Wednesday 1er November to Thursday November 2. It is already shaping up to be an exceptional storm. “In October, the trees still have leaves. Which means that the slightest gust of wind, with the reach that the wind will have on the leaves, could topple a whole pile of trees”confides Pierre Huat, meteorologist.

A weather bomb

This phenomenon of very hollow depression, called meteorological bomb, is the same as that observed in 1999 during storm Lothar. It should first circulate over the Atlantic, before arriving on the British Isles, then hitting Brittany, the Channel coasts and potentially the entire north of the country. “We must expect gusts of 140-150 km/h on the coasts and inland, up to the Paris basin and the north-east of the country, potentially 110-120 km/h”indicates Pierre Huat.
