In Argentina, the situation is tense between pro and anti Javier Milei, the country’s new ultra-liberal president. Violent clashes are increasing between demonstrators and the police, following the bills adopted in Congress.
First general strike for Javier Milei, only 45 days after coming to power: the ultra-liberal president applies a vast draft of deregulation laws, approved on Friday January 3 by the Chamber of Deputies. In fact, the project says “omnibus law”, was voted by 144 votes to 109: this constitutes a first victory for the controversial Argentine president.
Strong anger in the street
In the streets of Argentina, anger is expressed strongly because the law affects almost all areas: the public and private spheres, the electoral system, education, culture, self-defense, divorce… Faced with this law , opponents speak out in the street: “It will be an unlivable country, serving the rich. We will defeat them in the streets, like we did with the dictatorship”, declares Vilma Ripol, leader of the Argentine Socialist Party.
