Palm trees blown down by the wind, and gusts so deafening that they wake up tourists in the middle of the night in a hotel. Bringing with it winds of up to 300 km/h, Otis, which was only a tropical storm, transformed into a category 5 hurricane. This is the highest level. It just made landfall near Acapulco, Mexico, a resort town of more than 700,000 people.
Last hurricane in 1997
In the corridors of the hotel, the wind and rain rush everywhere. Piles of debris have formed, and areas are already flooded. The tourists had to evacuate. As a precaution, electricity in the town was cut off. The port and schools are closed. The last time Acapulco was hit by a hurricane, in 1997, it caused the deaths of 200 people.
