Christopher Cadjus Chima, 27, was arrested by Laval police on January 27, in the Ottawa area, “for kidnapping, forcible confinement, possession of a weapon and breaking and entering”, revealed the Laval police department ( SPL) in a press release.

The suspect then appeared before a judge at the Laval courthouse on January 31. He is still being held and is due back in court on Friday.

In the wake of his arrest, a search was conducted at Chima’s residence, in conjunction with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS). According to initial information, “a loaded firearm, a 30-bullet high capacity magazine, ammunition, three bulletproof vests, cocaine and other evidence” were then seized.

Recall that a 26-year-old young woman experienced a nightmarish situation in this case. The event began when Laval police received a call around 8:00 p.m. on January 17 concerning a home invasion on Clémence Street in the Fabreville area of Laval. Suspects had entered a home where the 26-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were.

An altercation had broken out between the suspects and the victims. The assailants managed to kidnap the woman and fled with her in a Land Rover vehicle. The man remained behind with minor injuries that were not life-threatening. The authorities were finally able to locate the vehicle on the other side of the Mille-Îles River, in Boisbriand, to rescue the unharmed young woman. In addition to Chima, two suspects had already been apprehended and were interviewed by investigators.

As the investigation is still ongoing, the Laval police invite anyone with relevant information in connection with this file to contact their Info Line, confidentially, at 450-662-INFO (4636), or to call 911 by mentioning the file number LVL 220 117-080.

A criminal history

Christopher Cadjus Chima is known to police and has a history of violence. In December 2014, he was sentenced to six years in prison after shooting at a man and seriously injuring him, following an argument between two groups in a bar in Pierrefonds.

He had been on statutory release after serving two-thirds of his sentence in December 2018 and the Parole Board of Canada (PBC) imposed conditions on him, including avoiding anyone with a criminal history or involved in criminal activities.

In their decision, the commissioners had notably pointed out that the man also has a hidden criminality, in addition to his known criminal history.

In March 2019, Chima was also the victim of an attempted murder in the Côte-des-Neiges sector. He was in his vehicle parked in a parking lot at the corner of Victoria Avenue and an alley when two men crossed the street and opened fire on him more than once, hitting him. on several parts of the body.
