Violent fire in progress at a waste management site

2,000 square meters of building in flames, with thick opaque black smoke visible above the Etang de Berre. This Sunday, a fire broke out at 9 am at the waste recovery center of the company Delta Recyclage in Saint-Chamas, in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

The flames sometimes reach 10 meters, the height of the two damaged buildings. 60 firefighters are on site, equipped with 35 fire vehicles. No injuries are to be deplored.

Robotic equipment

Beside them are robotic equipment: a misting fan of drones and an Colossus – a small robot equipped with a water cannon capable of propelling 2,500 liters per minute. So many means because industrial fires can be particularly dangerous.

While it is certain that the burning objects are waste, we do not know the details of the materials. Difficult to contact the site managers on a Sunday after Christmas … firefighters are therefore currently struggling without knowing if the smoke is toxic to them.
