On the night of Tuesday April 4 to Wednesday April 5, violent clashes broke out in the al-Aqsa mosque between the Israeli police and the Palestinians. The Israeli security forces notably clubbed worshipers in the place of worship.
Tuesday April 4, the Ramadan prayer ends and all is still calm outside the al-Aqsa mosque, but two hours later, inside the holy place, there are scenes of violence and chaos. Israeli police bludgeon worshipers, women scream. On the red prayer carpets, dozens of Palestinians are arrested and handcuffed. The Israel Police provided their own footage and version of events.
Mortar fire
Police footage shows that the door to the mosque has been barricaded and Palestinians are entrenched behind it, while all worshipers have to go out at night. The police come under fireworks mortar fire, the scenes of which they show to the cameras. The Palestinians filmed themselves in these scenes of confrontation in the heart of the place of worship. The al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in history. “It shouldn’t happen in a mosque, or in a synagogue, or in a church”, says a man. Tensions as Jewish extremists claim the right to come and pray on this esplanade of mosques.
