(Chicago) Chicago Blackhawks forward Jujhar Khaira has been discharged from hospital after staying there last night. He had to be evacuated from the rink on a stretcher Tuesday night following a check by New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba.
Blackhawks doctor Michael Terry said Khaira was released from hospital on Wednesday morning after undergoing numerous tests. The team then announced that Khaira’s name had been put on the injured player list and that they were following National Hockey League protocol in the event of a concussion.
“Despite the severity of the injury, the prognosis is excellent and full recovery is expected,” Terry said in a statement released by the Hawks. At this point, however, it is too early to put forward a timeline for a possible return to the game. ”
In the second period, Tuesday night, Khaira found himself with his head down trying to get the puck to leave the defensive zone. At the blue line, defender Trouba came in the opposite direction to block the road to Khaira. His right shoulder appears to have hit the Canadian-born forward directly to the chin.
As she fell, Khaira was thrown backwards and her head hit the ice hard. He was completely still as a nearby scrum erupted between players from both teams.
A stretcher had to be brought onto the ice and medical staff made sure to provide first aid to the injured player before he was taken to hospital.
“Personally, I was pretty shocked,” said Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews after the game. I won’t lie to you. I’m just glad to know he’s okay. ”
The 27-year-old Khaira scored two goals in 18 games in his first season with the Chicago team. He signed a two-year contract with an annual salary of $ 975,000 last July.
