These federations and their central union, the CSQ, claim that the climate has deteriorated, to the point where the situation is “hot in many places”.

Parents are worried, children are afraid to go to school and even staff harbor fears, Eric Gingras, president of the Centrale des unions du Québec, reported in an interview on Tuesday.

The CSQ represents the majority of elementary and secondary teachers in Quebec, as well as education professionals and support staff.

Eric Gingras calls for all actors in society to stand up and affirm together that it will be “zero tolerance” for violence and threats and even hoaxes.

Mr. Gingras also calls for more prevention, not school by school, but overall, in order to make the school a safe, reassuring environment where it is good to learn.
