Violence and firearms in Laval | The SPL arrests several suspects in three separate events

Gunshots in Chomedey, stabbing in the metro, gun thrown on the ground by teenagers in front of police officers: Laval police have arrested several individuals involved in three violent events that occurred in the last two months.

On June 14, Laval police were notified of shots fired at a group of youths near the intersection of Le Corbusier Boulevard and Le Carrefour Boulevard in the Chomedey sector. When police arrived, the suspect had already fled on foot, leaving the weapon at the scene. No one was injured in the incident.

The suspect apparently paid dearly for leaving his pistol lying around at the crime scene: the police quickly identified him.

On July 3, assisted by several squads, including the Tactical Intervention Group (GTI) and Azimut, investigators arrested Hakeem Émile, 18 years old. He faces several charges related to prohibited firearms. He remains in custody following his appearance.

Violent fight at the Cartier metro station

The fight, which according to our information was linked to street gangs, took place late in the evening on June 19 near the Cartier metro station.

“With the collaboration of the Montreal Police Department, as well as special constables from the Société des transports de Montréal, the three suspects were quickly targeted and arrested by investigators.”

They face charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

According to our sources, one of the two victims in this event was known to the police. The young man is linked to street gangs in the Saint-François area of Laval, according to the authorities.

Gun thrown on the ground

Two underage suspects were arrested by Laval police in early July for possession of firearms. The duo was near a bar in the Chomedey area. “When the police saw them, the two suspects tried to flee on foot. One of them also tried to get rid of a 9 mm pistol by throwing it on the ground.”

The police were able to catch up with them and recover the firearm. When searching one of the suspects, the patrol officers also seized a bladed weapon and pepper spray.

The two suspects face several firearm charges. One of them remains in custody at the Youth Centre following his appearance and will have to appear in Youth Court on July 15. The second suspect has been released.

“Although these events are not linked to each other, they are part of a continuum of violence for which the SPL has established an important strategy to combat it,” the police force explained in a statement regarding this series of arrests.
