There are more than 3,000 police custody and rapid legal action following the violence of recent days. Immediate appearances took place in different cities such as Marseille. The defendants are often very young and unknown to the police.

In the courtrooms of the Paris court, the comings and goings of the defendants lasted all day. After the riots, around thirty people were to appear, this Monday, July 3, before the judge in immediate appearance. Among them, a young man of 22 years. His brother has had no news since his arrest. “They want to set examples but I think that justice is not there to set examples, it is there to judge, to do its job well”he believes.

60% of young people were unknown to the police

Justice has started emergency procedures, even if each case is judged too quickly according to some lawyers. Since the start of the week, 3,200 people have been arrested in France, aged 17 on average. 60% of them were previously unknown to the police, according to the Interior Ministry. Sometimes there were inconsistencies or errors in the custody procedure. A strike by the clerks did not facilitate the judgments today.
