Violence after Nahel’s death: in the Rhône, an attacked school reopens

For the director of a school in Villeurbanne (Rhône), it is a huge relief to welcome the students again, Monday July 3. Four days after been attacked, the school was able to reopen. The children have found their classes and their friends. Only, the emotion is still alive. The event plunged the parents of students into amazement and consternation. “Attacking a school, for me, is criminal”judges a father. Another says: “We are happy that the school is reopened and that the children can come back for their last week.”

A listening cell

It was on the night of June 29 to 30, about twenty individuals set fire to a car near the school. Then they enter the establishment. A resident of the neighborhood even tries to reason with them, as they set fire to the ground floor. The fire will be brought under control quickly. The damage is still visible. But for the director, it was essential to reopen the school on Monday morning. The teachers have planned to answer all the questions the children have about the attack on the school and the urban violence. If the need arises, a listening cell has been set up on Monday.
