The difficulty in sourcing the raw materials to manufacture the vinyls is driving up production times and prices.
In recent years, the French have taken vinyl out of attics, but some references could soon disappear from record stores. Prices therefore increase, due to their rarity. Some albums that were easily found at 20 euros now cost 15 more.
To understand this increase, you have to go to a vinyl pressing shop. In that of Annecy (Haute-Savoie), certain raw materials such as polymer are running out with the Covid-19 epidemic. Prices have therefore increased for the polymer, the black gold essential to the manufacture of vinyls. At the same time, orders soar more than 100%. Result: production times explode, from eight weeks to six months on average. Estimates for the Annecy pressing workshop have thus increased by 30% in one year.
