Vincent Lindon denounced on Tuesday May 14 on franceinfo the government’s proposed merger between Radio France and France Télévisions: “It’s a regression in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, even the greatest country in the world for culture”declared the actor who will open the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday evening with the screening of Quantin Dupieux’s film, The second act.

The actor illustrated his point by denouncing the government’s public broadcasting reform project. “Foreigners, every time I speak with them, are overjoyed to come to France because there is incredible radio, because there is diversity. It is a regression to merge to try to get more audience, that’s what we call bad calculations.”he defended.

The government advocates a “reconciliation” of Radio France and France Télévisions from January 1, 2026. The text will be debated in the National Assembly on May 23 and 24.

“When there is no diversity, it is the impoverishment of brains and intellects.”

Vincent Lindon cited his father to illustrate his anger. He “told me all the time, I can’t afford cheap clothes.” According to him, the government project, “It’s a way of believing that we will progress, but I think we will pay the price later”, he said. “When we have such wonderful cultural freedom in France, with television, with radio, we must know how to refuse the lure of profit to ensure that culture can progress and so that we can express ourselves on the air. and radio and televisionhe continued.

Vincent Lindon says to himself “very touched” by radio. “It’s a medium that I love. I love it when there is still a radio station. Besides, I was one of the first to deplore the fact that we are filmed on the radio, because what is beautiful , it’s the voices. There’s a fantasy that comes through. We try to imagine people’s faces, how they’re dressed, what state they’re in. I’m talking to you about that because it touches me a lot.he said.
