Anderlecht coach Vincent Kompany said “disgusted”, Sunday, December 19, after being the target of racist insults during his training trip to Club Brugge, during the 20th day of the Belgian football championship.
“I left this match disgusted. During the whole meeting, me and my staff were insulted. Racist insults which also targeted players”, explained the former captain of Manchester City and Belgium.
“The day ends badly. I’m going to meet with my staff and with the people who matter to me. We shouldn’t be going through this anymore.”, he confided to the microphone of Eleven television after the clash between two of the best Belgian clubs which ended in a draw (2-2).
Club Brugge responded on Twitter condemning “any form of racism”.
Club veroordeelt racism.

“Some people are not representative of the values and standards of our club and have no place at the Jan Breydel stadium”, wrote the managers of the reigning Belgian champion club, which currently occupies second place in the championship behind Union SG and ahead of Anderlecht (4th).
Vincent Kompany is Belgian through his mother and of Congolese origin through his father, Pierre Kompany. The latter, who had fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1975, became in 2018 the first black bourgmestre (mayor) in Belgium, at the head of the municipality of Ganshoren in the Brussels region.
