Physical resemblance, same initials… It’s a little “people” surprise in the world of video games: Vincent Cassel provides the voice of a new character in the fighting game Tekken 8.

>> “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3”, “Tintin Reporter: Cigars of the Pharaoh”, “EA Sports WRC”: what are we playing in November?

In a trailer unveiled by publisher Bandai Namco, on November 2, 2023, we discover the character Victor Chevalier, the very first French fighter in the cult video game series, a sort of gentleman cyborg in a gray suit armed with a 9mm Magnum, a knife and… a lightsaber. And surprise, therefore: the voice of the character is provided by Vincent Cassel in person and in French. “Sunsets over the Seine remind me of what I must protect. And I’ll take care of it. You lost in advance“, we can hear the actor say.

According to the producer and director of the “Tekken Project”, Katsuhiro Harada indicates on X, formerly Twitter, that he is particularly proud of the arrival of this new fighter in the legendary saga of the brawling game: “Victor is the first French fighter in the Tekken franchise. I had the idea of a French character in mind for a long time and it finally came to fruition. Thanks to Vincent Cassel for inspiring me and lending his voice to him“. Final wink: the new fighter’s favorite setting is none other than a Bateau-Mouche, a stone’s throw from the Eiffel Tower: “It’s Paris itself, where I took my first cruise on the Seine more than 20 years ago“, confides Katsuhiro Harada.

Tekken 8, which is due out in January 2023 on the latest generation of consoles, traces the tragic history of the Mishima lineage, punctuated by multiple clashes between the tyrannical father, Kazuya Mishima, and his son, Jin, both martial arts experts. Some 32 characters will be playable across several different game modes.
